Reborn House: A Masterpiece of Residential Architecture by AlHumaidhi Architects

Unique Design Approach Merges Functionality and Aesthetics in a Seaside Property

Reborn House, a residential project in Bidaa, Kuwait, is a testament to the innovative design approach of AlHumaidhi Architects. The project, which started in 2017 and completed in 2020, has been recognized with the prestigious Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2021.

The design inspiration for Reborn House came from the necessity of retaining the general spatial configuration from a previous design. The initial foundation had already been laid out when the client approached AlHumaidhi Architects. However, the firm managed to incorporate its unique design philosophy into the project, resulting in a residence that stands out for its unique properties.

One of the key features of the Reborn House is its strategic use of openings. With the western elevation facing a busy street, the architects carved a series of openings out of the main mass. These cuts were made at acute angles, and the windows were set within a slight tilt. This design approach not only creates an intriguing visual effect but also serves a practical purpose. By partially masking the windows, the architects were able to create shadows that minimize solar heat gain while allowing for diffused light to enter the house.

The eastern elevation of the house, facing the sea, benefits from deep set openings and balconies that maximize both views and shade. This thoughtful design approach demonstrates AlHumaidhi Architects' ability to balance aesthetics with functionality, a characteristic that has earned them recognition in the field of architecture.

The exterior volume of the Reborn House consists of a white orthogonal mass sitting on a stone plinth. The stone cladding continues to the interior spaces as flooring and wall cladding for the core wall, creating a seamless transition between the exterior and interior of the house. This design approach, along with the use of wooden louvers, creates a playful contrast that energizes the central atrium.

The Reborn House is a clear demonstration of AlHumaidhi Architects' innovative approach to residential design. The project showcases the firm's ability to merge functionality and aesthetics, resulting in a residence that is not only visually appealing but also comfortable and practical. The Reborn House is a testament to the firm's commitment to creating unique, high-quality architectural designs.

With its unique design features and strategic use of materials, the Reborn House is a standout project in AlHumaidhi Architects' portfolio. The project's recognition with the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2021 further underscores the firm's reputation for excellence in the field of architecture.
